[00:32] I start my day by looking at the ocean.

[00:35] If there happens to be waves, I'll surf all morning, or I'll find excuses to surf all day.

[00:47] If you end up getting really good waves, it's like you get your fix.

[00:54] I'm fortunate where I have a schedule that I'm in charge of.

[01:09] The sculpture work started because I was like 16 and I needed gas money, or I needed new surfboards.

[01:16] And my dad, he'd be like, "Hey, I'll pay you to grind out these sculptures."

[01:24] The kinetic sculptures that I create are meant to move effortlessly with little to no wind, because they're perfectly balanced.

[01:34] It's so unique in the sense that you're trying to make a very heavy piece of metal float.

[01:48] When you're doing those really geometric, angular sculptures, you want everything very square to keep everything perfectly in line.

[01:59] There's amazing stages to sculptures, where, say the process of just building out the shape.

[02:10] You feel really good about the shape, and then you go into the next phase of grabbing the raw sheet material.

[02:18] And you cut everything out, you make that exoskeleton...

[02:39] I would always lay it on the ground, I would put it up on the table, and I'd just stare at it and I'm just like, I'm onto something here.

[02:44] And then you'll get into the balancing process.

[02:48] And things will change, and you have to just adapt given the center of gravity and the balance point. So you're always chasing that center of gravity and that balance point.

[03:00] There's no computers, there's no CAD files, there's no CNC. It's all just hand cut.

[03:05] This is art, but there's so much engineering in it.

[03:10] These will never be made in a factory, and it reflects in the end result.

[03:18] Finishing a kinetic sculpture and setting it up in a client's yard and watching it do its thing feels like something not a lot of people get to do.

[03:30] I just feel so good about my end result.

[03:42] There's so much opportunity to work with my hands for the rest of my life.

[03:46] Doing this thing that's so untraditional, trying to live a different lifestyle.
